Painting Pastor pursues dual passions

Painter and Pastor Jeffery Sparks poses with his painting of his father-in-law Dr. Arthur Dick.

NEWTON–Pastor Jeffery Sparks expresses his passion in two vastly different mediums. One he pursues from behind the pulpit at St. Luke Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Newton. The other he pursues in front of an easel.

“These are not two different pursuits but one pursuit expressed in two ways, with the singular idea of sharing an experience of beauty and truth,” Sparks said.

Sparks oil paintings range from still lifes to plein air pieces that all capture a moment in time. His pursuit of beauty and truth has also been one of learning.

“Thankfully, by the patient, generous, and often unexpected mentoring by some of America’s great artists, each providing time and teaching, I continue to grow as an artist,” Sparks said.

A varied sampling of Sparks’ paintings will be on display in the “Painting Pastor” exhibition at Carriage Factory Art Gallery Nov. 23, 2019 through Jan. 18, 2020. Opening reception and artist talk will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019 at the gallery. The public is invited.
