Artist's Statement

My wife calls me “The Painting Pastor” and I like that as it points out the two passions of my life, painting and the pastorate. These are not two different pursuits but one pursuit expressed in two ways, with the singular idea of sharing an experience of beauty and truth. In fine art, I have always been seeking beauty and truth through painting. Thankfully, by the patient, generous, and often unexpected mentoring by some of America’s great artists, each providing time and teaching, I continue to grow as an artist. Admittedly, historical masters are some of my best teachers too, and with some determined research and investigation, these artists have shown to me some of the greatest gifts of insight and understanding. It seems to me that the one goal that all master artists have in common is their desire to express beauty and truth to others, and this, too, is a high calling.
