Artist's Statement
I moved to N. Newton from Chicago in 2022. Since then, I have enjoyed showing my work in the Carriage Factory Gallery and creating prints while auditing printmaking classes at Bethel College.
I focus on making monotype prints. A monotype is a one-of-a-kind print. I paint an image with printing ink onto an acrylic plate. The image is transferred by placing a piece of paper over the acrylic plate and running it through a printing press. It’s an exciting process to see what happens when the printing inks interact with the paper! The imagery in my art is often abstract with figurative references and I particularly enjoy the interaction of color and line. I also enjoy creating art with a sequence of images. I recently participated in an exhibit at Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago, called ” Sequences, Iterations and Permutations” which featured artists who created sequential works.
I have B.A in art from Goshen College, Goshen, Ind. and an MA in Art from San Jose State University, San Jose, CA. I have been employed as an art educator at Goshen High School, Goshen, IN, Flint Institute of Arts, Flint, MI and Mott Community College, Flint, MI. I look forward to many years ahead of creating art and sharing my work at the Carriage Factory Gallery!
