“Everyday Moments” Features Artists Joel Dugan and Emily Chamberlain

November 18, 2017 – January 5, 2018

(NEWTON, Kan.)  – A new exhibit featuring artists Joel Dugan and Emily Chamberlain will debut Saturday, November 18, 7 p.m., with an opening reception featuring talks by the artists, music by Ian Gingrich Gaylord and refreshments. The event is free and open to all ages.

Joel Dugan

Dugan is an accomplished visual artist who works primarily as a painter. He is assistant professor of painting at Fort Hays State University and operates his studio in Hays. “I am drawn to artists who document the human condition,” he said. “I draw inspiration for my work from my life experiences as well as my interactions with interesting people.”

Dugan received his bachelor of fine art from The College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Mich. He completed his MFA at The Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Art at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. He has an active national exhibition record of solo and group shows and has completed many public art and corporate commissions including The Ford Motor Company and the State of Michigan.

Emily ChamberlainChamberlain makes ceramic sculptural works while also teaching elementary art for Derby public schools. She was born and raised in Buffalo, N. Y., and received her bachelor’s of science in both art education and ceramic design as a duel major from SUNY Buffalo State College. She received her master’s of fine arts in ceramics from Wichita State University.

Art by Dugan and Chamberlain in “Everyday Moments” will be on display and for sale through January 5, 2018.

Carriage Factory Art Gallery is a nonprofit arts organization housed in the original carriage factory and blacksmith shop founded in 1883 by J. J. Krehbiel, co-founder of Bethel College. More than 50 area artists have their work for sale in the gallery and gift shop. The gallery continues its mission to bring the arts and art education to South Central Kansas through the support provided through memberships, donations, sales, facility rental and classes.

Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 12 to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Third Thursday events are 6 to 8 p.m. Art classes are held throughout the year.
