DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, August 2\, 1-4:30 PM. It’s hot outside\, so join artist Stephanie Bayliff to paint these cool 1950’s style cats in the gallery. We will explore this bold\, flat illustration style and learn how line and shape create energy and movement. Using acrylic paint to block in basic shapes\, we’ll then adding fun retro lines with acrylic paint markers. No painting or color mixing experience is necessary. SUMMARY:Let's Paint a Landscape with Jay Holobach
DESCRIPTION:August 8-9\, 9 AM – 3 PM. Join artist Jay Holobach for a two-day workshop focusing on the ‘four horsemen’ of painting: Value\, Composition\, Color and Drawing. This workshop is organized in a lecture/lab format and will focus on the use of oil or acrylic paints. Filled with practical hands-on exercises\, presentations\, and short demonstrations\, you’ll be given tools to elevate your own work as you discover your own unique brush style. The workshop will use photo references to create a painting and\, weather permitting\, briefly step outside so we can compare outdoor lighting to photographs. Maybe we’ll even paint outdoors by the gallery! Open to all levels\, although some experience with landscape painting is beneficial. SUMMARY:Sashiko Embroidery for Beginners
DESCRIPTION:Join Dena Bisnette and learn the art of Shashiko Embroidery\, Saturday\, August 23\, 1-4 PM. Shashiko is a Japanese technique that originated as a method of mending clothing\, but is now considered a form of embroidery. It consists of running stitches – only minimal sewing skills are necessary for this class. Participants will learn to make decorative patches of denim and cotton. The patches can later be sewn to textile items like clothing\, bags\, or home decor. We will explore some traditional Japanese as well as non-traditional designs. \n $40 per student. All needed supplies and tools will be provided. This class is for participants of any age able to use a needle and manipulate fabric by hand. 10 and under accompanied by an adult.
