Artist's Statement

Growing up in a rural community in central Iowa, I knew at a very young age that I wanted to be an artist. My earliest memories are filled with sunlight, trees and the beauty of the natural world. This time connecting with nature and being encouraged to explore my creativity fed my love of color, light, and peace.  I’ve always been a dreamer, spending more time than most inside my head, singing songs and imagining a world where people are kind and living together peacefully. Dabbling in many art forms, I recently discovered alcohol ink, which feels very much like coming home for me. This medium offers me a way to share those images of color and light that are dancing in my brain! One of my favorite things is sharing my love for creating with anyone who will listen, and I especially find joy when they join me in the creative process!

I received a B.A. in Art Education from McPherson College.  After working in Art Therapy, as a secretary (at a church and a school), and teaching many recreation center art classes, l am now an elementary art educator in Newton, KS.  Becoming an art teacher also feels like coming home, like everything I’ve done before has led me here, to a place I can share my love of creating and my belief that art matters for everyone.
