Artist's Statement

Rachel Epp Buller (MFA, PhD) is a visual and sound artist, feminist art historian, educator, and mother of three. She has exhibited her artwork in solo and group exhibitions in the US, UK, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, and Italy. She is a two-time Fulbright Scholar, board member of the national Women’s Caucus for Art, certified practitioner in Deep Listening, and Professor of Visual Arts and Design at Bethel College (KS).

As an educator who has the opportunity to teach a wide variety of media, I explore a range of materials in my own work as well, including drawing, printmaking, photography, artist books, and sound installations. Much of my practice incorporates traditions of making that are shared between hands, passed down through generations, including embroidery and cut-paper work known as Scherenschnitte. My current research addresses listening as an artistic method, something that can be done not only with our ears but also with our hands and feet, gestures, and movements.
