Denise Brueggeman
Artist's Statement
My influence:
Being a native Kansan has given me appreciation for simplicity — the clean lines of the Flint Hills, the shadows in a snow-covered field, the waves found in a blowing wheat field. These images are relaxing, peaceful and often what I like to photograph. When it comes to painting, however, I like to study the microcosms – the smaller areas of life – and all their complexities. I find myself attracted to the multitude of shapes, how they interact, and the energy they produce. The finished work also reflects my personality – I’m happy. I love life. I’m grateful.
My background:
Art and creativity permeate my life at every level – whether it’s designing something for myself, teaching my students how to design a presentation, or designing a school program that helps kids – it’s all about problem solving. I also feel my 20 years as a graphic designer—before entering the field of education— is reflected in my work.
